India commits to help smaller neighbours cope with climate change

Aware of the need to work together, India has committed to help its smaller neighbours cope with effects of climate change. Stressing that there is no rift with neighbours on the issue, Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh told on Monday that India would do its bit to help others in capacity building exercises.

“We have a substantial commitment to help our South Asian neighbours adapt to effects of climate change,” he said while addressing a press conference here. More details...

Gorkhapatra: Climate change critical issue: Nembang

Kathmandu, Oct 4 - Chairman of Constituent Assembly Subash Chandra Nembang Monday said that since climate change was becoming a challenging issue globally, Nepal was also trying its best to minimize the harms of climate change.

Inaugurating the opening ceremony of international symposium "Benefiting from Earth Observation: Bridging the Data Gap for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan Region" organized by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Nembang said that analysis and data on climate change were inadequate and stressed on the need of filling the gaps.

"Nepal is trying its best to minimize the harms of climate change. Our country succeeded in throwing light on the plight of developing countries crippled by climate change in Cop-15," said Nembang. More details...

Shri Jairam Ramesh expressed his desire to build a closer partnership with institutions in Nepal and deepen the relationship with ICIMOD. He announced the Indian government’s plan to start new satellites to observing climatic changes and forest cover changes. “In addition, we are setting up a new national institute of glaciology and are giving two fellowships to Nepali researchers under 35 years old.”
