Experts stress earth study techniques

Earth observation techniques—namely Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) Tools—are needed to improve scientific knowledge and understand climate change, experts said.

Speaking a six-day international symposium on ‘Empowering Youth with Earth Observation Information for Climate Action’ on Friday, Director General of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development Andreas Schild said though it is evident mountain glaciers are melting at an alarming rate there are shortfalls in the data and a detailed analysis is needed to understand climate change. The lack of scientific data and analysis is hindering the prediction of future scenarios related to melting of mountain glaciers, he said. “The Earth observation technology plays a vital role in add-ressing the gaps in the scientific data and research.”
