New receiving station inaugurated today

At 12:40 on October 3, 2010, the new JAXA WINDS (Wide-band Internetworking Engineering Test and Demonstration Satellites 'KIZUNA') receiving station at ICIMOD will be inaugurated. The ribbon cutting-ceremony will be attended by Shinichi Mizumoto, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Japan, José Achache, Executive Director, Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and Andreas Schild, Director General of ICIMOD, along with the participants of the pre-symposium workshop on "Space-based information for disaster preparedness and risk management" held on October 2-3 at ICIMOD, Kathmandu.

WINDS is a super high-speed internet satellite for emergency response. Its access will improve ICIMOD’s own capacities in disaster mapping. More details...
